As the module title indicates, the contents focuses on database systems with Web front ends. The content selection also follows two principles:
- it should be practical - something that students learn to do rather than to talk about;
- and it should be industry relevant.
-
A one-slide summary of the contents shows those elements.
On this basis, the module covers a range of technologies: database management, SQL, Web client programming and an embedded web server language (at the time of writing, PHP), date handling in various languages. Each of these elements is simple in its own right, but in practice they are always used in combination with each other. It is the combination that creates the difficulty, just as the difficulty of juggling resides in a combination of simple gestures.
